Endorsements for
Wes & Paul
"I would like to give my full and complete endorsement to Wes and Paul. In my many years here at AA I have not seen many if any base reps that have worked so hard on behalf of their pilots. When the time comes when you need that extra bit of support from the union when dealing with any kind of issue Wes and Paul will be there just like they were for me! Wes and Paul will look after all of our interests junior or senior. Don't fall for the “I will get us this, I will get us that” talk from the other candidate's, Of course we all want improvements and I believe they do too but Wes and Paul are actually in there getting the job done, it would be a big mistake to remove them now, they are just getting started. I strongly urge you to cast your vote for Wes and Paul, they are looking out for you. Thank you to all for stepping up to serve your fellow pilots."
CA Kurt Wien ORD 787 Captain, Seniority #78
"I proudly support the re-election of Wes and Paul in ORD. Chicago pilots are among the loudest and proudest in the system, though we are not the biggest group we are always heard. I know this because I represented a good portion of our ORD based pilots in a previous life. Our voices make all the difference and Wes and Paul have proven they know how to translate our voices to the BOD, by listening to us!! (Just give them a call If you don’t believe me Wes and Paul return every call, every text message, and every email in a timely fashion which is a sign of a rep who cares about the constituents). Furthermore, BOD meeting minutes and their BOD voting history show they are not scared to stand up and go against the grain when it’s needed. Wes and Paul now being experienced union representatives will be an even louder voice for ORD going into a critical phase of this next term. Wes and Paul have my votes and I hope you offer them the same."

"A good leader begins with someone who not only listens, but understands and genuinely cares what is being said. Wes and Paul have continuously demonstrated that we cannot take such leaders for granted. We are fortunate to be represented by two people who make themselves readily available, rise to the occasion, and are willing to make difficult decisions in the face of adversity. It is tirelessly orated that we need to expect more out of our leaders and hold those in power accountable. Wes and Paul have proven that change is not always necessary nor the correct approach. They make decisions and stand up for each and every one of us, even when it is not easy or politically favorable. This is what it means to be a leader. They stand in the way and take the blame all while shielding the rest of us. Not only do we not need an administrative change, We need more Pilot’s like Wes and Paul. They make me proud to stand in solidarity as a proud union Pilot with each and every one of you.I hope as years pass, we have more Pilot’s willing to make the selfless decision to stand up for us and in doing so remember that leadership is synonymous with trust. It is not given, but rather earned and with that my vote will confidently be cast for Wes Smith and Paul Meyers."

"Contract negotiations begin in 2026. Preparations for that noble cause are happening right now. Our collective cause will require steadfast leadership and most importantly a commitment to directly represent the pilots of ORD. To that end, I fully endorse Wes Smith and Paul Meyers to continue to represent the ORD pilots. I have worked with and witnessed Wes’ and Paul’s balanced, disciplined and steadfast leadership for years. Their representative leadership style has been tested and proven not only on local issues but more broadly on national issues.
At the APA Board of Directors meetings and with local issues, I’ve always been impressed by how effectively they not only voice our ORD perspective but most importantly, follow the lead of the pilots they represent. You and me. Just as compelling is their commitment to fully study and understand every issue before them. Their commitment to understanding how all issues will impact every seniority range and every seat is unparalleled.
I cannot think of a better crew to represent the ORD pilots as we prepare to enter our next round of negotiations.
Please join me and take the time to vote as if the next contract depends on it, because it does."

"I want to take a moment to recognize the outstanding support I've received from Wes and Paul. Back in September, I was scheduled to fly the 6pm London flight. I commute out of CVG and took the 3pm flight, with the 5pm as a backup. Unfortunately, our Eagle partners mistakenly loaded my suitcase into the rear cargo bin.
Upon landing in ORD, I patiently waited for my bag, but it never arrived. I immediately called Paul, who went above and beyond in assisting me with tracking the whereabouts of my luggage. He also contacted the Chief Pilot, as time was critical. CVG ops had failed to load my bag on the later inbound flight, which would’ve arrived in time for me to operate my flight. My luggage contained everything I needed, including medications, contacts, spare glasses, etc., leaving me essentially “dead in the water.”
As a result, the Chief Pilot removed me from the trip, but the company didn’t want to compensate me for the time lost. Despite my best efforts to resolve the situation, the company was at fault. Thanks to Wes and Paul’s tireless work, multiple phone calls, and emails, they were able to resolve the issue, and I was eventually paid.
I’m genuinely grateful for their dedication, hard work, and commitment to our team. Thank you, gentlemen! You have my vote."

"As a Chicago based 737 Captain, I feel so fortunate to have such wonderful base representation with Wes and Paul. They are really out there all the time, and always are watching out for our best interests. Always available, day or night when needed. I truly cannot say enough good things about them. This is what is needed moving forward at our base. Many important things coming for us in the future, and we need people with the experience to be able to handle the issues. We are not just an employee number to them, we are a large and growing family. Chicago is one of the most tight knit bases, and most of us have known each other for more than 20 years. We need to keep our family in Chicago as a top priority. With Wes and Paul, I am confident we can do just that."
Adrian Radosav - ORD 737 Captain
"I had the pleasure of meeting Wes and Paul at the ORD IMAX and base meeting last year. As a junior pilot at #15077, they made me feel welcome, just as they do for every other pilot they encounter. They’ve always been receptive to my texts and calls, consistently providing guidance and support.
In my previous role as ALPA AJT MEC Vice Chair and FO rep, I understand the dedication and effort required to succeed in these positions. Wes and Paul have consistently demonstrated the experience and commitment necessary to improve the lives of our pilots here in Chicago.
It’s crucial to keep experienced and level-headed representatives in place, and I firmly believe that Wes and Paul are exactly that. Their willingness to always be available and approachable is something I deeply appreciate, and I am confident that they will continue to work diligently for the betterment of all our pilots."
Noor Yoosufani - ORD 737 First Officer
"I have attended several Section 21 hearings alongside Wes and Paul, and have seen them vigorously advocate for our pilots. Both have been strong defenders of our contract while maintaining a positive relationship with the flight office. They have been incredibly responsive and helpful to me personally, and I hear the same from other pilots I speak with. The pilots of Chicago will continue to benefit from having Wes and Paul in office for the next 3 years”
Charles Stone - ORD 737 Captain
"Wes and Paul are two of the most ethical and honest reps I’ve met in many years of union service. They do the work for the right reason - supporting and advocating for the pilots they represent. Over their last term, they have based their positions on data, pilot input, and have continuously advocated for pilots to make the choice on their representation. I can think of no better choice to represent ORD pilots as BOD members at APA. If I had a vote in Chicago, it would be an easy choice to opt for Wes and Paul."
Sander Mertz - LGA A320 Captain
"For those who know me, I’m not shy about speaking my mind, and I’ll always be upfront. Wes and Paul have both been responsive to my calls and texts, and I’ve interacted with many representatives in ORD throughout my career. Wes and Paul have consistently kept their word. They advocated for the pilots in ORD to have the opportunity to vote on their contract, which was something I personally wanted. When I called them upset during the endgame, they took my calls and were genuinely willing to listen.
I’ve also encouraged them to explore the ALPA merger, and once again, they put their personal opinions aside to advocate for the pilots in ORD to decide, just as they did with the contract. While we may not always agree with our representatives, continuity is key. We need reps who stay engaged with their members and aren’t afraid to handle tough situations.
Wes and Paul are strong pilot advocates, and their work at the local level is critical. Their relationships and experience in ORD are unparalleled, and that’s why we need to keep them as our domicile officers in Chicago."
Paul “Skip” Garber - ORD 737 Captain
"I’ve known Paul for years and flown with him countless times. When he was asked to run for Vice Chair two years ago, I asked him, “Why would you do that to yourself?” But in the end, Paul stepped up because he genuinely wants to improve things for our pilots. Both Paul and Wes have done an excellent job since taking office—communicating effectively with our pilots, always being available, and ready to pick up the phone whenever needed. They are fully committed to representing pilots to the best of their ability. Their experience over the past two years has been invaluable, especially for our Chicago pilots.
In our representation, relationships, experience, and the ability to remain level-headed are critical. Paul and Wes bring these qualities in abundance, and they will continue to serve all our pilots in Chicago with the same dedication and professionalism they have shown so far."
Don Silich - ORD 737 Captain
“I enthusiastically endorse Wes and Paul for re-election as our local union representatives. Over their time as volunteers, they have consistently demonstrated their unwavering commitment to the Chicago pilots by being highly attentive to our concerns and needs at the local level. Wes and Paul are approachable, and they excel at listening carefully to all perspectives, ensuring that every voice is heard.
One of their strongest qualities is their ability to engage in civil and productive discussions, fostering an environment where all members feel respected and valued. This skill is essential in representing us effectively and ensuring our interests are always front and center.
Their extensive experience and deep understanding of union processes have proven invaluable in their roles, particularly when it comes to active participation within the Board of Directors. Wes and Paul have shown time and time again that they know how to navigate the complexities of decision-making and influence positive change for the benefit of all Chicago pilots.
Re-electing Wes and Paul ensures continued strong, thoughtful, and dedicated representation. They have the experience, expertise, and commitment to serve us well, and I am confident they will continue to advocate for our collective interests with integrity and professionalism.”
Zeke Vazquez ORD 737 Captain
“I have been a 737 FO in Chicago for about 4 years now and I am grateful for the representation of Wes and Paul. They spent a lot of time and effort at the national level to help us finally get a new contract and I am very appreciative of that. They are also both very involved locally. We are constantly getting updates and information through email blasts on everything from the new equipment expansion of the ORD base to the recent company action of making all the ORD domestic pilots suddenly qualified to fly internationally. Paul has also been very helpful to me on a personal level. Not only has he has helped me with bereavement leave, medical issues and other personal matters, he also always gets back to me when I have questions about my schedule, training or anything else that comes up.
I am glad Wes and Paul decided to run again and they have my full support.”
Mike Wolgemuth ORD 737 FO
"To my fellow ORD pilots,
I wanted to share my thoughts and vote of confidence in Wes and Paul as our reps for the Chicago pilot group. i’ve had the chance to chat in person with them on many occasions, and have regular contact with Paul Meyers when I need a question answered, want to ask about APA business, or just vent about what I see out there on the line. They both have been extremely receptive to me in all facets.
They’ve helped me out when I’ve received missed trips or had issues receiving payment from the company. Most recently when Chicago, along with other Flight offices, imposed an arbitrary time and spending limit on crew meal reimbursements. Although the issue isn’t the biggest fish in the pond, Paul has kept up with regular updates and communication with making sure this issue is being dealt with by the association. I really respect his passion and enthusiasm to take my phone calls, no matter what the topic may bring. I’ve been a part of other unions in the past and have been represented by other pilots, but I’ve never received this level of support. When it comes to hot button issues like talks of an ALPA merger or section 6 negotiation items, neither Wes nor Paul seem to shy away or be afraid to talk about the tough choices. We have ahead of us to make.
They are candid and open, and I really respect that given the Chicago pilots group very complex make up. We have legacy American pilots here with hire dates reaching back to the 80’s, a good decade before I was even born, and we are bringing on new pilots here in Chicago who were brought into this world post 9/11. That dynamic would be challenging for anyone to manage, but I believe Wes and Paul do their best to bridge the gap between the many wants of our Chicago pilots.
Even more so, I really respect how they work and interact with their counterparts in the Chicago Flight office, Bill and Joe. I do believe we have some of the best Chief Pilots in the company here, but it certainly helps that our union representation has a working relationship with them to yield productive results when disagreements arise. Again, it’s a tough line to walk, and one I certainly don’t envy. They must be friendly and cordial enough to have a productive relationship with the Flight office, and yet when issues arise, they are also tasked with effectively defending and protecting our pilot group. I’ve been very happy in my two years here with the job that I’ve seen so far.
Both Wes and Paul have always been straight shooters in my book, and although if we get into the nitty-gritty details of the association, ALPA merger talks, or the contract, we may not always agree. Still, they treat me with a respect and professionalism that brings dignity to their position as our elected reps.
They have my vote of confidence going forward as we enter into the next cycle of early openers for section 6 and navigate around challenging yet necessary issues of what union is best to represent our pilot group. In the current times we find ourselves in, I believe they are the right people to represent our ORD pilot group. The minute the sentient changes, they will certainly be the first to know!"
Robert (Andy) Rodriguez ORD 737 FO
"Wes and Paul are both phenomenal reps, I can attest they are truly looking out for our best interest. They are very proactive, whether it’s about mediating situations with the chief pilots or helping with the operational challenges. They have been a cause for several positive changes with the union’s leadership. They are approachable, and I always felt they are really listening to our concerns and most importantly, they are actually taking big steps to make things better.
During my experience in ORD, I could have not wished for better representation and really hope they will continue in their roles. We are in good hands with them, I encourage you to vote for them."

"As an FO who’s been in ORD since 2019, I can say without a doubt that Capt Wes Smith and FO Paul Meyers are the two candidates we should back and support during this election.
Both these pilots have outstanding leadership qualities, and the experience necessary our ORD pilots deserve! This is our chance to fight back on the companies never ending TDYs, withheld and entitlement awards! ORD has been facing constant challenges over the past few years; to include: international and domestic seniority integration, addition of the A320 aircraft as a pilot base, along with the reduced pilot manning on the 787.
The company thought a single day of ground school training was sufficient for our ORD pilots to become international qualified! Wes and Paul both voiced their concerns about this training, and it fell on deaf ears! They both have expressed their full supported if ORD pilots elect to request a CKA for any flight into an international destination without receiving the proper flight training all other pilots have received; to including our newly hired pilots!
Wes and Paul are currently in a battle with our ORD leadership with the constraint TDYs, withheld and entitlement awards. They understand the frustrations our pilots are facing with the lack of seniority movement ORD has had over the past three years; due to poor management decisions!
I strongly encourage everyone in ORD to vote, and make a difference this Monday, 10 March- 31 March! Please consider making Wes and Paul the candidates you back and support! Wes and Paul will continue to provide the support all ORD pilots deserve! They will ensure our concerns are heard loud and clear by AA leadership! Additionally, Wes and Paul will continue to provide the necessary change within APA leadership we deserve!"
Rob Faurot ORD 737 FO
“Chicago is fortunate to have Wes and Paul as passionate, committed pilot representatives. Whether you're a new pilot or have been with the company for decades, it's clear that Wes and Paul consistently go above and beyond in their roles. From answering calls at all hours, navigating complex questions, tackling pay issues, advocating for ORD flying, to representing our interests at Section 21 hearings—they are always there for us.
As representatives, they embody the qualities of approachability, empathy, and dedication. They have proven themselves time and again, listening to the concerns of their colleagues and making decisions that are always in the best interests of our pilot group, and specifically, the pilots of Chicago.
As we approach early openers, Wes and Paul’s deep knowledge and understanding of our contract, along with their years of service and experience, put them in a unique position to continue advocating for the changes that Chicago pilots have expressed. They’ve been attentive to your feedback and have consistently worked to address the challenges we face.
Having worked alongside them and seeing their commitment firsthand, I have full confidence that Wes and Paul will continue to serve the pilots of Chicago with the dedication and representation we deserve."
